Deliberations to form a three-party majority government with the Independence party, Resurrection and Bright Future have failed and will not continue. The reason for the discontinuation is an irreconcilable disagreement particularly when it comes to the fishing industry according to a report by Visir.
Chairman of the Independence party, Bjarni Benediktsson, had received the mandated from the president after the 2016 general elections on October 30th where his party received a huge majority of the vote (29,1%). Since his efforts to form a government have been unsuccessful he must return the mandate and the party that with the second biggest vote is most likely to receive the mandate.
